Lavender Hill

Lavender Hill is a beautiful 11 acre farm located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, but paradoxically, still within the city limits; a farm inside a town. Less than a mile away from the historic Courthouse on the Square, the property is enhanced by 1000 feet of frontage on the Blanco River, with giant old Oaks giving shade to a guest house and the home of Charley and Ganell Pemberton.

They bought the pasture in 1997 and over the next three years, built the four buildings in the compound. Some remodeling of the barn was required when they planted lavender in the fall of 2000, so now the barn encompasses a small apartment, the gift shop, storage, the distillery, and the shed greenhouse.

Ganell outlined a four acre garden in 2003 featuring a rose covered arbor, lavender hedge lined walks, indigenous fruit trees and native grasses. It is bordered on the East by the lavender field and on the West by a rock and rail fence.

In 2005, Charley petitioned the City and gained definition of Blanco as "The Lavender Capital of Texas." Energetic and imaginative citizens joined in to produce the first annual Lavender Festival the next year. This year the weekend of June 14 and 15, 2008 has been circled as the date for the 4th annual festival. Mark your calendars for a visit to Blanco on that date and visit the nine farms now active in the area.
